Marine Corps?
I am a high school student and planning to join te Marine Corps after I graduate. I haven't talk to a recruiter yet but I will. Since I don't usually have Internet access to research, can anybody explain to me the steps being a Marine? ( I mean like what do you do after you signed up, and when do you take health, blood test and physical test, etc, and how long it takes from the time I signed up till I can go to boot camp)? Also some advices wouldn't hurt.
All heath test are done at MEPS. You will do an IST (initial strength test) before you leave for boot camp. This is a very basic test to give you a base line of where you are physically. When you leave for boot camp will depend on what your MOS (your job in the Marines) will be. Some schools for example infantry 0311, are not more than a month or two long. These have classes that start all the time so you can leave for boot camp sooner. The more technical a school is, i.e. helicopter mechanic, the longer the school, some up to a year long. When the next class starts will go a long way to determine when you go to boot camp. The reason behind this is to get you into your school as soon as possible after boot camp and MCT. You wouldn't want to graduate and then spend 3 months doing working parties waiting for your school to start!
As far as advice goes, the most important thing you take to boot camp with you is a POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE!! Start telling yourself that you WILL NOT FAIL. You WILL EARN your EGA. YOU WILL walk across that grinder and become a US MARINE.
